The Catamount Ultra Marathon starts and finishes at beautiful Trapp Family Lodge outside of Stowe VT. The 25k course is primarily wide, hard-packed dirt trail. Rolling through highland pastures and hardwood forest complete with maple sugar tap lines in place and ready for the spring "run", this course is not to be missed. Our course circumnavigates the incredibly well maintained and protected Trapp Family Lodge trail system at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak. To complete the 50k course, runners will complete the 25k loop, two times. There is an 9 hour racer cutoff for the 50k.

E PROFILE.jpeg

This elevation profile represents an approximate elevation profile. The course contains approximately 2500ft of elevation gain and 2500ft of loss per 25k loop. For a grand total of close to 5000ft of gain and 5000ft of loss for the 50k!

2025 COURSE PREVIEW DATE TBD

Join us for a full loop of the 25k course at a mellow pace, or take a lap/partial lap at your own pace. The course won't be marked but we will have maps available. This is not an official event, you are responsible for your own safety and support but we would love to have you join our RD, Will for a lap!

All participants will be asked to purchase a day use trail pass from the Outdoor Center, this is how Trapps keeps those trails in great shape! Meet outside of the OC Yurt at 10:00, run starts by 10:30am. If anything changes last minute due to weather we will update on our IG and Facebook pages.

If you plan to preview the course on your own or at a later date, please take note:
The cattle may be in fenced-in areas that are on part of the course. They are moved around the property on a rotating schedule. Do not enter these areas with the cows. There are bulls, and they can be dangerous! Please take a trail map with you so you can find an alternative option around these areas. The cows will be located in a safe place on race day.

The course will include three aid stations. Aid stations are at miles 4.6, 9.4, and one at the 25k/15.5m start/finish area. 25k racers will only have access to two aid stations while on course. Racers are encouraged to use their own judgement about fueling, but carrying hydration, gels, etc. is highly encouraged. Each aid station will be well stocked with standard ultra event fuel and hydration. Catamount Ultra is a cup-free race! In an attempt to reduce race waste, we are eliminating all disposable single use cups. If you have additional food specific needs, please make sure you come prepared! While we do not have a designated drop service, we will have a designated area at the start/finish for 50k runner drop bags. You can place your bags there pre-race and pick them up whenever you like! There will also be a supply of Band Aids, Vaseline, and duct tape, plus a few other basic first aid supplies but there will not necessarily be first aid care givers at all aid stations. We will have volunteer first aid caregivers at the start/finish.

Racer crews and spectators are welcome anywhere on the course, but driving access is only available at the start/finish aid station at the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center. We certainly would encourage spectators to hike out into the beautiful forest to cheer on our competitors but please make sure your friends/family take a map and appropriate supplies, there's a lot of forest out there! Runner aid is not permitte
d by crews except at aid station.

The 2025 race will have a 9 hour overall time limit.

A FEW ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT DETAILS

If you must drop, please notify a race official at the start/finish area ASAP so we don't go looking for you!
